N. Katherine Hayles is James B. Duke Distinguished Professor Emerita of Literature at Duke University and Distinguished Research Professor at UCLA. Her scholarship explores the intersections of science, literature, technology, and digital humanities. A pioneering figure in electronic literature and posthumanist studies, she is the author of How We Became Posthuman (1999) and Writing Machines (2002), among many others. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015.
